24 Machines, 1 Robot to Clear City Sewage Lines

To tackle the tricky desilting of sewerage lines in narrow lanes in slums, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is in the process of ordering 24 desilting machines at a cost estimated to be between ₹27 and ₹30 lakh each.
MUMBAI:
Alongside, the civic body plans to have a sewage cleaning robot vehicle to clear stubborn sewer choke in the city. The machines are expected to be in operation by October. Bids are already invited on the tender for both, which includes one year operational and maintenance cost.
The traditional bandicoot machines BMC uses for desilting are fixed on vehicles, using its power, and depositing the silt in its storage.
He added, "Their dimensions will be small enough that they'll be taken directly to manholes in slums, making the work easier."
