THE ACCUSED HAS BEEN DETAINED AND POLICE ARE CURRENTLY INTERROGATING HIM, POLICE SAID

- HT Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police have registered a first information report (FIR) against Uttar Pradesh legislator Raghuraj Pratap Singh, alias Raja Bhaiya, after his wife filed a complaint of domestic violence against him, a senior officer said on Sunday. Police said the Kunda MLA's wife, Bhanvi Kumari Singh, had approached the National Commission for Women a couple of years back. On Friday, the Delhi Police booked the Jansatta Dal (Loktantrik) MLA under Section 498A (husband/relative subjecting woman to cruelty) under IPC, the officer said. HT accessed a copy of the FIR which mentions the couple got married in 1995.

According to the FIR, Bhanvi allegedly sustained injuries, including lung-rib damage, fracture and fibroids, due to the assault and harassment. She also accused her mother-in-law of mental harassment in the complaint. "He has threatened our daughters that he will kill me...In the past two months, he (Singh) has vindictively given these threats," the FIR said.
