Trump admin lifts sanctions on Syria

The Trump administration granted Syria sweeping exemptions from sanctions, on Friday, in a big first step toward fulfilling the president's pledge to lift a half-century of penalties on a country shattered by 13 years of civil war.
WASHINGTON: While broad, the administration's actions could possibly be reversed.
Syria hailed the decision. "The Syrian Arab Republic welcomes the decision from the American government to lift the sanctions imposed on Syria and its people for long years," a foreign ministry statement said.
