Need to reshape mining as a constructive activity: Minister

Union coal and mines minister G Kishan Reddy on Monday lauded Rajasthan’s unique mineral wealth, including the iconic Makrana marble, and emphasised the need to change the perception of mining from destructive to creative.
He said the star-rating system has brought a major transformation in the sector, with 98 ‘mines have been rated this year — some receiving a 7-star for the first time.
The Union minister was speaking at a felicitation ceremony in Jaipur, organised by the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) for mines that have been rated seven-star and five-star.
Stressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Zero Defect, Zero Effect” vision, Reddy urged the adoption of global standards in environment, safety, and innovation.
