Goyal to review progress on India-Israel FTA

India and Israel are expected to review progress on the proposed free trade agreement (FTA) during commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal’s two-day visit to the country during November 20-22, the ministry said on Wednesday.

The visit comes three months after the two nations signed a bilateral investment agreement (BIA) to promote and protect foreign private investments in each other's territories on September 8. Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and her Israeli counterpart Bezalel Smotrich signed the BIA. The two sides began FTA talks about 15 years ago, with the first round held in New Delhi on May 26, 2010.

The talks were put on hold after the eighth round in Israel from November 24-26, 2013.

Goyal, accompanied by a 60-member business delegation, will scout for Israeli investments in India during the visit on the invitation of Israeli minister for economy and industry Nir Barkat, the commerce ministry sai
