SIT formed to probe IIM-C rape case: Cops

The Kolkata police on Sunday formed a nine-member special investigation team (SIT) to probe into the alleged rape of a 24-year-old woman by a student on the campus of the Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta, officers aware of the matter said.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) and its state counterpart, meanwhile, have registered suo motu cases in the incident.

According to police, the incident took place on July 11 when accused Paramanand Mahaveer Toppannawar (26), a second-year student at IIM-C, had called the complainant, a psychologist, to the institute's campus in southwest Kolkata for a counselling session.
