Govt likely to rename rural jobs programme

The Union government will increase the minimum annual workdays for beneficiaries of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) to 125 days from the current 100 and rename the flagship job guarantee programme as 'Poojya Bapu Grameen Rozgar Yojna'.
The Union Cabinet on Friday approved the MGNREGA (Amendment) Bill to amend the MNREG Act to change the title of the scheme and increase the number of annual workdays provided under the flagship programme, people familiar with the matter said.
