Gopinath Bazar polling station claws way up turnout chart

Winds of change swept the Gopinath Bazar polling station, infamous for its voter turnout of 1.16% in the 2020 Delhi elections, as it clocked a markedly increased voter turnout in the state assembly elections on Wednesday.

As of 2pm, 406 of 1,038 registered voters—a turnout of over 39%—had turned up, according to a senior election commission officer.

"If the same rate of people turning up to vote continues, we estimate that around 200 more voters would be in by the time voting ends," the presiding officer of the station said.

Located in the shadows of the British-era red-brick imposing structure of St Martin's Church, the polling booth is located in St Martin's School. This booth had gained the notorious distinction of being the location with the worst polling numbers in the national capital in 2020, as only 13 of its 1,116 listed voters had cast their votes.
