ED notice to Vijayan in FEMA case triggers political slugfest

The Enforcement Directorate (ED)'s show cause notice to chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, former state finance minister Thomas Isaac and Vijayan's chief principal secretary KM Abraham inthe Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) masala bonds case invited sharp criticism from both the ruling CPI(M) and the Opposition Congress.
The notices were issued under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) on November 12, to the CM, in his capacity as the KIIFB chairman, Isaac in the capacity of the board's vice-chair-man and Abraham in his role as the CEO. The institution has also been issued the show cause notice. Tobesure, they only have toreply to the notices and not appear before the agency.
