5 jets were shot down during India-Pak clashes, says Trump

United States President Donald Trump has claimed that five fighter jets were shot during the military conflict between India and Pakistan in May, further asserting that his administration helped broker a ceasefire between the two countries.
“We stopped a lot of wars. And these were serious, India and Pakistan, that was going on. Planes were being shot out of there. I think five jets were shot down, actually,” Trump said on Friday while addressing a gathering of top Republican party lawmakers at the White House. “These are two serious nuclear countries, and they were hitting each other.”
Trump's remarks comes amid a simmering controversy over the exact fighter jet losses suffered by the Indian Air Force (IAF) in May. To be sure, New Delhi has not officially acknowledged the number of aircraft lost during hostilities with Pakistan.
Senior officials, however, have made public statements that were seen to confirm that the air force suffered some losses.
