Civic body elections today; BJP, Cong exude confidence of win

A day ahead of voting for the urban local body elections, both the BJP and Congress on Wednesday have claimed victory in a majority of the seats.
DEHRADUN:
The voting for 11 municipal corporations, 43 municipal councils and 46 nagar panchayats will take place on Thursday, while counting will be held on Saturday.
As the campaigning ended on Tuesday, the party leaders indulged in door-to-door campaigning on Wednesday to woo voters.
For the BJP, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in 52 events in 12 days. In his election speeches, Dhami focused on "land jihad", "thook jihad", Uniform Civil Code law and development initiatives taken by the state government and Centre.
He alleged that the Congress only indulges in vote bank politics, appeasement and "anti-Sanatan Dharma".
For Congress, there was no central figure in the campaigning and it was divided among senior leaders, including the party's state president Karan Mahara.
