Rains from Typhoon Wipha pounded Hong Kong on Sunday as the storm skirted southwards before making landfall in the southern province of Guangdong, leaving fallen trees and scaffolding.

Nearly 280,000 people in Guangdong had been relocated, according to a state media report.
