Envoy says China, India should join hands on US tariffs

NEW DELHI: China and India should work together to address the impact of “unfair [and] unreasonable” tariffs imposed by the Trump administration in the US as part of enhanced economic cooperation on the global stage, Chinese envoy Xu Feihong said on Monday.

The US, which has long benefited from free trade, has triggered a trade war with its tariffs, which are a “weapon” for demanding exorbitant prices from other countries, Xu said, while addressing an event organised to mark the 80th anniversary of China's victory over Japan in World War II. “The trade war [was] started by the US and [we should see] how China and India can cooperate to fight against this tariff war,” Xu said. “The US has long benefited from free trade, but now it is using tariffs as a kind of weapon or a tool to demand exorbitant prices from various countries.”
