West Bengal recorded a historic voter turnout in 2026 assembly elections fuelled by large deletions under the special intensive revision (SIR), with women leading participation and several Kolkata seats witnessing unusually high pollin; in the second and final phase on Wednesday.
According to Election Commission of India (ECI) data, the overall voter turnout in the polls stood at 92.9% (till lpm on April 29), including 92.59% in second phase on Wednesday. The first phase, held on April 23, saw voter turnout of 93.19%, according to EC.
Female voter turnout stood at arecord 93.24% across both phases, surpassing male turnout of 91.74%. In Phase 1, female turnout was 94.10% compared to 92.34% among men. In Phase 2, women again outnumbered men with a turnout of 92.28% against 91.07%.
The second phase turnout of 92.59% is also the highest for these 142 assembly constituencies since at least 2011 assembly elections. In absolute terms, the turnout is around 63.3 million, also the highest in the state’s history. In 2021, the absolute turnout was 59.9 million.
