Ex-RPF cop who killed 4 on train to be sent for mental treatment

A sessions court in Mumbai on Thursday ordered former Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable Chetansinh Chaudhary — who is accused of shooting his senior colleague and three passengers on board a train in July 2023 — to be referred to Thane mental hospital for medical examination after Akola prison authorities informed it that he was suffering from a mental disorder.

Additional sessions judge Nandkishor L More also ordered that the accused, who is currently lodged in the Akola central prison, to be shifted to Thane central jail.

"The trial has already begun. The jail authorities are finding it difficult to produce the accused in court. Due to internet problems, the accused has not even been produced through videoconferencing," the judge noted.
