Rapper sent to forest dept's custody for keeping leopard tooth

KOCHI: Kerala rapper-songwriter Hirandas Murali, known by his stage name of Vedan, was sent to two days of custody of the forest department on Tuesday by a local court in Ernakulam after he was arrested and booked for possessing a locket containing the tooth of a leopard.

Vedan was produced before the Perumbavoor First Class Judicial Magistrate-III following hours of interrogation by the forest officials in Kodanad. The 30-year-old rapper was booked under sections 2 (16) hunting and 2 (31) preserving any part of a captive/wild animal, section 39 (1) declare as government property any article from a wild animal seized of the Wildlife Protection Act, said forest officials.
