Kalaburagi barber booked for refusing to cut hair of Dalit kids

A 30-year-old man, working as a barber in Kalaburagi district, has been booked for allegedly refusing to cut the hair of children belonging to the Dalit community, police said on Sunday.

Sharana Basappa Kodla, inspector at the Aland police station, said that the incident took place in Kinni Sultan village of Aland taluk at around 10.30 am on Friday when children from the Dalit community approached local barber Peman Premanath for haircuts.
The officer quoted the residents as saying that Premanath told the children: "I don't shave Dalit children. Do whatever you want." When confronted subsequently by a Dalit leader, he reportedly said, 'Our elders never shaved Holayas or Madigas. We too will not do it for you.'
