Former minister Reddy sentenced to 7 yrs in jail

THE SPECIAL CBI COURT ACQUITTED FORMER ANDHRA PRADESH MINES MINISTER SABITHA INDRA REDDY AND FORMER BUREAUCRAT KRIPANANDAM IN THE CASE
BENGALURU: A special CBI court in Hyderabad on Tuesday convicted former Karnataka minister and sitting MLA Gali Janardhana Reddy, along with three others, and sentenced them to seven years in prison in the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) illegal mining case after a prolonged legal battle spanning nearly 14 years.
Reddy, along with his brother-in-law and OMC MD Srinivas Reddy, his assistant Mahfooz Ali Khan and the state's then director of mines and geology Rajagopal Reddy, has also been fined ₹10,000 each. The company involved was fined ₹1 lakh.
Soon after the judgment, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took Reddy and others into custody.
