US military head for Latin America to retire after 'concern over boat strikes'

WASHINGTON: Navy admiral Alvin Holsey, the commander of US Southern Command, will retire in December, defence secretary Pete Hegseth said, depriving the Pentagon of a top military officer as it wages a deadly campaign of military strikes against suspected narcotraffickers in the region, Bloomberg reported.
The Southern Command's area of responsibility includes the Caribbean and South Amer-
ica, where the Trump administration has launched a series of deadly strikes against vessels off the coast of Venezuela.
