At least six people went missing after the boat they were travelling on capsized in the Brahmaputra river in Assam’s Barpeta district on Tuesday afternoon, officials familiar with the matter said.

According to officials of the district disaster management authority (DDMA), Barpeta, preliminary information suggests that the motorised country boat was ferrying passengers from Rahampur to Borghul when it overturned midstream.

Around 25 people were onboard at the time of the accident, officials said.
