Injured in attack outside pub

A dad of two has avoided jail after an assault outside a Hamilton pub left the victim with serious head injuries.

Paul Cassidy was instead ordered to do 225 hours of unpaid work and placed under social work supervision for a year.

Sheriff John Speir also imposed a six-month electronic tagging order, banning him from going out between 7pm and 7am each day.

Cassidy, 47, of Wellcroft Court, Hamilton, admitted assault to severe injury and danger of life outside the George Bar in Campbell Street on November 7, 2023.

The Crown accepted that the first offender acted under provocation.
