Kerala port begins onshore operations

The federal government has authorised an integrated immigration checkpoint at the Vizhinjam International Seaport in the city to streamline logistics.

The only Indian port capable of accommodating the world's largest vessels can now ensure smooth cargo and passenger movement across the country by road and rail.

Currently, cargo is transported in large vessels that dock at ports, where it's transferred to smaller feeder ships for inland distribution and vice versa.

With the establishment of the new immigration facility, significant reductions in both time and transportation costs are anticipated.
