Jharkhand cops leave alone interfaith couple in Kerala

Kerala has informed the High Court that the Jharkhand police, which came in search of the interreligious couple who got married in Kerala, have returned.
Last month, the court granted protection to a couple from an eastern state, Asha Verma and Mohammad Ghalib, after they married against their families’ wishes.
They sought an extension of this protection order, expressing a preference to remain in Alappuzha due to ongoing threats from the bride's family.
The court ordered the district police chief not to return the couple to their home state during the protection period.
The two had been in a long-standing relationship, but while Ghalib, 30, was working in the UAE as an engineer, Verma's family arranged for her to marry another man.
