India holds exam retest after leak scandal
June 22, 2026
|Gulf Today
More than 2.2 million aspiring doctors across India sat for a fresh National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) examination on Sunday under unprecedented security arrangements, after the original test was cancelled following a major paper leak scandal that sparked nationwide outrage.
The re-examination comes amid growing concerns about the integrity of India’s education system and follows weeks of protests by students, parents and opposition groups. The controversy surrounding the country's most important medical entrance exam, along with a separate dispute involving high school examination results, has intensified public scrutiny of educational authorities and led to calls for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
