MALAPPURAM: Congress in the district is facing its toughest challenge as two prominent leaders are fighting openly for Nilambur by-election seat and is toying with the idea of putting up a woman candidate as all efforts for a peaceful solution failed.

Congress district president V.S. Joy enjoys the backing of senior leaders like V.D. Satheesan and state-in-charge Sudhakaran while Aryadan Shoukath, son of late Aryadan Mohammed, who won the seat eight times in the past, refuses to withdraw from the claim.
The Congress party is now forced to explore an alternative option following the failure of all efforts to appease both Joy and Shoukath.
