BJP’s rising influence in CPM strongholds worries latter

TRIVANDRUM: The Communist Party of India (Marxist), which leads Kerala's ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF), is worried about diminishing influence in its strongholds.

In a report on its state conference held in Kollam early this month, the party's mouthpiece, People’s Democracy, says it was evident in last year’s national elections.

Quoting a report submitted to the conference, it says Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was gaining at its loss.

It also criticises the Congress party-led opposition United Democratic Front (UDF), its ally in the Indian National Development Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) for it.

The report highlights the BUP’s growing influence in Kerala, which has been evident in the recent national elections.
