‘Because we are a nation that dared to take apartheid Israel to the ICJ’
-
Six South African activists who were detained by Israel while attempting to reach Gaza as part of an aid flotilla said yesterday they were subjected to harsher treatment than other detainees because of South Africa’s role in a genocide case against Israel.
Speaking after their return, the activists, including the grandson of Nelson Mandela, said they were singled out after Israeli guards noticed that they were from South Africa. Two Muslim women among the group said they had their hijabs ripped off their heads and were forced to strip naked in front of Israeli soldiers.

US Dollar – The view after the fall
We started 2025 as US Dollar bears and, thus far, the year has borne out as we expected. At its trough, the US Dollar Index (the 'DXY') fell by over 10 per cent since the start of the year before staging a modest rebound in recent months. This move has been driven by a combination of somewhat-mistaken 'De-dollarisation' fears and the more mundane driver of lower interest rates. Is Dollar weakness now behind us, or is this only the start of a larger move lower? We are of the view that further weakness is yet ahead, albeit after a breather.
