New Dubai law puts quality first in construction contracts

NEW RULES FAVOUR TRACK RECORD, COMPETENCE OVER LOWEST-PRICE BIDS

In Dubai, new construction contracts will be awarded based on a company’s track record — not just the lowest bid during tenders.

According to industry sources, this will be one of the most significant outcomes of Dubai’s newly issued rules for contracting activities. The changes assume greater significance as Dubai embarks on its next wave of mega-projects, including the new airport, high-rises, and critical infrastructure that will reshape the city over the next decade.

Prioritising value over cost

“By mandating technical competence [for contractors] and strong business ethics, Dubai is prioritising value over cost,” said Gordon Rodger, Managing Director at Stonehaven.
