Bihar to vote on November 6, 11 in 'mother of all elections'

STATE TO TEST 17 MEASURES, INCLUDING WEBCASTING FOR POLLING STATIONS

The Bihar Assembly elections will be held in two phases — on November 6 and 11 — and counting of votes will take place on November 14, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced yesterday.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, accompanied by Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, described the upcoming polls as the “mother of all elections,” promising a peaceful, transparent exercise.

“We want to assure Bihar voters that the elections will not only be exemplary and smooth, but also the most peaceful, with a special focus on maintaining law and order,” Gyanesh Kumar said at a press conference in New Delhi.

The term of the current 243-member Assembly ends on November 22, requiring fresh elections before that date.

Of Bihar’s 243 constituencies, 121 will vote in the first phase and 122 in the second. The 2020 Assembly polls were held in three phases.
