Military's top guns test new climbing facilities at championships

THE new 270 Climbing Park at Bentham hosted some of Europe's elite military climbers over three days of competition at the European Military Climbing Championships 2025.

The championship was the first official event to take place on the park's brand-new walls - including the 18-metre tall outdoor climbing wall and 17-metre long outdoor bouldering wall, ahead of their public opening on August 4.
More than 60 of the highest-ranked military climbers from the UK, France, Italy and Kosovo competed in Olympic-style bouldering and lead climbing, with the action building to a thrilling final.
After an intense and closely fought final round, Marcello Bombardi (Italy) was crowned overall champion, with Andy Mawhinney (UK) and Edwin Gaufres (France) completing the men’s podium.
