Man strangled and beat his partner 'in a fit of jealousy'

A JEALOUS man repeatedly strangled his partner after she messaged male friends and smashed up her phone while saying "The only way to get to you is to smash your phone up".

After assaulting her, he told her: "If you call the police, I will seriously beat you bad before they get to you".

Huw Young, 57, had been in a relationship with his victim for a year and they kept their own homes.

He first strangled his partner in 2024 at his home in Bridgend after throwing her phone across the bedroom and putting his right arm across her throat to restrict her breathing.

A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court heard the defendant became increasingly argumentative due to the victim receiving messages from male friends.

He asked her to delete them as contacts and in a "fit of jealousy" he took her iPhone and smashed it beyond repair.

Young told the victim: "The only way to get to you is to smash your phone up".

Prosecutor Jac Brown said the defendant later ordered a new phone for his partner.
