Rajasthan State Warehousing Corporation faces unprecedented crisis

The Rajasthan State Warehousing Corporation (RSWC), a government enterprise established in December 1957 to provide warehousing facilities for agricultural products and other notified commodities, is undergoing its worst financial crisis in its 68-year history.

Once a consistently profitable institution, earning between Rs 100 to Rs 125 crore annually, the Corporation’s profits have nosedived in recent years—down to Rs 20 crore in 2021-22, a mere Rs 3 crore in 2022-23, and just Rs 12 crore in 2023-24.

The Corporation currently operates 37 warehouses across the state with a total storage capacity of 17.20 lakh metric tonnes. However, officials acknowledge that the return on this capacity has been far from optimal. Insiders attribute the downturn to administrative irregularities during the tenure of the previous government, which led to operational disruptions.
