The appointment of General Dhiraj Seth as the 31st Chief of the Army Staff is more than a routine change of command in the Indian Army.

Over the past decade, several key decisions in the security and defence domain—from strengthening border infrastructure and promoting indigenous defence production to modernising the armed forces—have demonstrated a leadership style that seeks continuity and preparedness rather than short-term considerations. The selection of General Seth fits naturally into that approach.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is understood to have played a role in General Dhiraj Seth’s elevation, given the high regard in which he holds the officer’s professional capabilities and vast operational experience. Sources indicate that General Seth shares an excellent working relationship with the Defence Minister, whose confidence in his strategic vision and leadership qualities proved instrumental in his appointment as the Army Chief.
