PASSENGER VEHICLE WHOLESALES saw a marginal uptick of just 0.1% in May, reaching 352,000 units, according to industry sources. The figure, which represents dispatches from manufacturers to dealerships, signals a subdued market as retail sales were down 1% year-on-year, reflecting weak consumer sentiment despite expectations of a pre-monsoon boost.

Although Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai Motor did not release their individual numbers on Sunday, the industry-wide tally includes their internal dispatch estimates.
