THIS YEAR, WE DROVE ALL SUB-4 METRE SUVs AVAILABLE IN INDIA

KIA SONET IT IS A visual delight, and expensive, just like authentic Korean gimbap. The cabin quality, featuring plastics that rival vehicles twice its price, sets it apart.

Key features are all-door power windows with a one-touch auto up/down function, ventilated seats, Bose speakers, and air purifier.

Why we love it: For its premium features, bringing genuine luxury to compact SUVs.

What we don't like: The rear seat is cramped, and the fuel efficiency, even in diesel, is poor.

(₹7.3 lakh to ₹13.65 lakh, ex-showroom)

SKODA KYLAQ

IT'S THE surprise package of the year, and has single handedly helped Skoda become a serious player in India. Unlike some competitors that look like raised hatchbacks, the Kylaq’s stature nearly matches the midsize SUV Kushaq. The dashboard has a unique sustainable touch with a bamboo-fibre infused pad.

Why we love it: For its solid European build quality and the pleasing ‘thud’ sound when closing the doors.

What we didn’t like: Even top-end variants don’t get ADAS or 360-degree camera.

(₹7.55 lakh to ₹12.8 lakh)
