Crop Insurance Default by States Crosses ₹6,450 Crore

Premium to be deposited in escrow account from Kharif 2026
The defaults in settlement of crop insurance claims by states under the highly subsidised Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) has exceeded ₹6,450 crore in the five years through FY25, the agriculture ministry told Parliament on Friday.
Andhra Pradesh (₹2,565 crore), Rajasthan (₹1,525 crore), Madhya Pradesh (₹1,468 crore), Tamil Nadu (₹124 crore) and Uttar Pradesh (₹121 crore) have been the major defaulters.
