JOE Whitworth’s incredible campaign with Exeter City has ended with him being named as the fans’ player of the year - and the Crystal Palace loanee expressing his love and gratitude to the Grecians.
The club held their annual end of season awards night in a specially constructed marquee on the St James Park pitch on Sunday evening, recognising the achievements of both the men’s and women’s team.
But after being named as the supporters’ player of the year, Whitworth expressed the love he has for the club, which has developed over the course of a season that saw him play all 46 league games for the club, keeping an outstanding 16 clean sheets in league and cup action over the course of the campaign.
“I love the club,’ Whitworth said after winning the award. “Since the day I came in, the manager [Gary Caldwell] has been incredible with me, everyone at the club - and the fans - have been amazing since day one.
