A FIRE that resulted in a huge ball of flames erupting from a burning electricity substation in Exeter city centre was deemed accidental.
The fire, which started at about 6am on Sunday, May 11, was metres away from properties and was tackled by six crews.
The substation is located in a historic quarter of Exeter along a narrow pathway known as The Mint.
The fireball damaged the exterior of a taller building owned by the Mint Methodist Centre.
A safety cordon was in place at the scene when oil ignited and sent flames spouting high into the air, the incident commander has revealed.
The flare-up was extinguished by firefighters and nobody was hurt, but not before hundreds of properties lost power and around 25 residents were evacuated.
