‘The constitution was signed by Mima and countersigned by Elizabeth Walters.
One of the main changes to the constitution is to streamline the executive committee.
Federation president Mima Telfer thanked all the institute reps, who had served on the executive committee, for their work and contributions. Ann Henderson and Chris Hayden are the two new general committee members.
‘The Ordinary meeting then followed with 24 institutes represented. Apologies were given and the minutes of the previous meeting were approved and signed; any matters arising from the minutes would be covered in the later business.
‘The correspondence had been sent out previously by email and Mima intimated that the emails from Third Sector First would now not be sent out in future as it was felt they now of less interest to members.
‘The speaker for the March Federation meeting is still to be confirmed.
The Betty Burns sugar sifter competition 2026 is a Dundee cake. The institute winner will go forward to the Federation Meeting with the winner of this going on to represent Dumfriesshire at the gathering in September.
The Centenary Trophy is open to individual members and is for a knitted blanket for the SANDS charity. The basic blanket pattern is on the SANDS website.
There is also an extra competition for a jar of marmalade which is open to all members.
Flyers have been sent out for all three competitions.
There have been several social events since the last meeting including a very successful InterFederation Ruralympics attended by Ayrshire, Lanarkshire, Stewartry and Wigtownshire Federations - along with six teams from Dumfriesshire.
Haugh of Urr in the Stewartry were the winners, with Canonbie in second place and Moscow Ayrshire in third.
