JOANNA Garvey lost her son to suicide without knowing the reason why she would never be able to see her 20-year-old son again.

- By LOUIS CORBETT

Will went off to university in Leeds, and to his family, he appeared as if he was a normal teenager who was just figuring out life.

But just one month before Will’s 21st birthday, Joanna and Kavan, his father, received the news that Will had taken his own life.

Joanna, founder of The Will Garvey Trust, said: “Will was a kind, sweet, smart and funny boy.

“He had a heart for other people, he had a social conscience, he wasn’t afraid to pick up on people and correct them when they were wrong.

“He never gave any indication that anything was wrong himself. Will didn’t say anything that would give us an indication. We don’t know why.

“What we do know is when he was at sixth form, he was depressed and he had some counselling, but he seemed to improve, he went off to uni very excited and very happy.

“There were no messages that something was seriously wrong. Will didn’t say anything that would make us suspect something was up. We just thought he was finding his feet and growing up, this is the thing as well, he had plans for the future, he had his ticket for Glastonbury and he was looking forward to going.”
