LEADING POLITICIAN HAS FAMILY IN OUR CITY, MOST RECENTLY VISITING FOR BIRTH OF HER GRANDDAUGHTER
WHEN taking a stroll through Derby, some residents may have unknowingly come across one of the most powerful politicians in an African nation.
Justice Dr Jane Mayemu Ansah, 70, who became Malawi's vice president in October 2025, has strong ties with the city of Derby and often returns to visit her family.
Her daughter Janet said: “My mother started her legal career in Malawi, but she came to England to do her PhD in International Human Rights Law at the University of Nottingham in 1998.
