Rothwell could be January window target for Rams

MIDFIELDER LEFT ON THE FRINGES OF SQUAD AT RANGERS

DERBY County have been linked with a move for Rangers midfielder Joe Rothwell ahead of the January transfer window.

According to reporter Alan Nixon, the Rams are keen on Rothwell, who has struggled for minutes at Ibrox which has sparked speculation over his future.

Rothwell hasn't played for Rangers since October and he is expected to move on when the market opens for business in the New Year.

The 30-year-old packs considerable Championship experience and was with Leeds United last season, where he played 39 games in all competitions as they won promotion to the Premier League.

He earned a permanent move to Rangers in the summer to join Russell Martin but the latter was soon sacked and replaced by Danny Rohl.

Since the former Sheffield Wednesday boss took charge, Rothwell has been left on the fringes and is expected to be moved on to free up space in Rangers' squad.

Sheffield United are also keen on the 30-year-old as they continue to climb the table under Chris Wilder following a tricky start to the campaign.
