DRIVERS have branded a road closure in north Derbyshire “beyond stupid” and an “absolute joke”.

Derbyshire County Council announced at around 9am yesterday, the closure of the A619 in Chesterfield between West Bars roundabout and Ravenside Retail Park.

The council explained the road had been closed due to “unexpected heavy rain” preventing sealant from settling as quickly as usual after surface dressing work.

Drivers were told to avoid the area.
