OMETH a rude name, cometh the man, so look away now if you're easily offended.
-
Of all the “great Christmas gift ideas” being touted on social media, my eye was drawn to one called the Marvellous Map Of Great British Place Names, featuring more than 2,000 genuine locations of funny, rude or plain quirky monikers.
It turns out there are countless Bottoms in this fair land, among them Hertfordshire’s Slap Bottom.
Lincolnshire has a village called Belchford, Hen Poo is a small loch in the Scottish Borders and Wiggtwizzle is a hamlet in South Yorkshire (six miles from Penistone).
Closer to home, Derbyshire has Deepsick Lane, in Calow; Fanny Avenue, in Killamarsh; Knobb Fields, in Castle Gresley; and Glutton Bridge, Buxton, while Nottinghamshire boasts Willey Lane, in Underwood; Cockshut Lane, in Langwith; Nicker Hill, in Keyworth, and Fanny's Grove, a wood in Newark.
