Strand skelms in shootout with police after robbery

A WINKEL in the Somerset Crossing Shopping Centre was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash by 10 armed suspects, resulting in a shootout between cops and robbers.

Niklaas Thysen, the public relations officer for the Strand Community Police Forum, said that the retail store which was targeted is Boxer Superstore on Tuesday morning.

According to police, the store was invaded by 10 armed men around 6.25am and a 28-year-old suspect was arrested as the rest managed to flee from the scene.

Thysen said that supermarkets in the community of Strand has become a regular target for local criminals.
