A STATE witness in a massive drug trafficking case at the Cape Town Regional Court has been gunned down.
Christopher Carelse was shot and killed in a hail of bullets in Kensington on Wednesday.
Carelse was co-accused with a former Standard Bank manager Raed Cupido, dubbed the Cocaine Banker. Cupido was arrested in June last year at a storage facility in Roeland Street in the Cape Town CBD.
This, after an intelligence-driven operation led police to uncover a massive consignment of drugs and illegal firearms. Police seized 15 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of R18 million.
Police further seized a cache of firearms, which included a Uzi submachine gun, an AK-47 rifle, five 9mm pistols, and several ranges of ammunition.
