Dear James, I AM in my 50s - I was an office manager - but after being made redundant a few years ago I went back to university and did a degree in social work.

I am now a support officer, but I want to go into management in the social-care sector.

However, every application I've put in hasn't gone anywhere despite my previous managerial experience.

I am concerned that I am seen as “too old” for a more challenging role.
