Kone's horror leg break takes the shine off a day Marsch reckons 'no Canadian will forget'

- BY JAMIE GARDNER

CANADA coach Jesse Marsch admitted his whole squad has been shaken by a horrific injury to Ismael Kone.

The midfielder was taken to hospital with a broken leg during a thumping 6-0 World Cup win over Qatar.

Kone was fouled by Qatar's Assim Madibo close to the dugout, with Marsch saying everyone on the bench "could hear the bone snap".

Sassuolo star Kone was able to sit up as he was carried off the field on a stretcher, on a day when Canada's victory - featuring a Jonathan David hat-trick - was their first-ever in a World Cup finals, 40 years after their debut at Mexico '86.

Marsch said of Kone: "He's at the hospital, he will prepare for a surgery. I'm going to see him after this press conference. We'll see exactly what we decide to do for him. His family is with him at the hospital. It happened right in front of the bench. Everyone could hear the bone snap.
