SECRET PLAN TO HIKE FEES FOR BOOKIES

RACING fans face a whipping after Government plans to launch a new tax raid on betting were leaked in a civil service bungle.

Documents published online show Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy plans to raise licence fees for bookmakers by up to 30%. That would cost them £8million a year.

Experts warn they could pass it on to punters by cutting odds and free bets.

It comes two months after Chancellor Rachel Reeves hiked tax on online casinos from 21% to 40% and general betting duty on sports other than racing from 15% to 25%.
