ONE of the riddles from Alice in Wonderland is: "Why is a raven like a writing desk?"

The Mad Hatter poses this question, and the writer, Lewis Carroll meant for it to be absolute nonsense, with no real answer.

However, there is an answer. In part the answer is that they can both produce flat notes. A little cruel to say perhaps.

The raven may not be everyone's first thought when they think "songbird" but they are one. In fact they are the largest songbird in the world.

So let's take a look at our sombre virtuoso. The raven has a wide array of sounds they can make.
